[Tips] Eyebrows Beauty for Men

Robert, Charlotte, NC asks
Question: I'm not pleased with the way my eyebrows look. They are weak and grow in different directions. I wonder how actually men shape their eyebrows for stronger look?

Men's Flair Team answers:

If you have any hairs above your nose (unibrow), or obviously odd shaped eyebrows, plucking is the only way to go. And that is the only case when waxing and plucking eyebrows is acceptible for men who don't consider themselves metrosexuals. For these cases it's best to go to a salon and have professionals wax your eyebrows. It will cost around $10 - $15, but it’s worth it. Do it yourself method should be left for simpler stuff. If you still choose “at home” method, you must not shave yor eyebrows at any cost. Hair will only grow back faster and thicker and will look more odd than before.

On the other hand, if your eyebrows look “normal” but you would like to make them looking “better” there are few small actions that could be taken. Minimal intervention is the key word when it comes to shaping men’s eyebrows. You want your eyebrows to look great but still you want them to look as natural as possible. You don’t want them overshaped at any costs. It will only make you look girly and label you as that metro-whatever.

First, brush your eyebrows up from the bottom with small brush to groom and shape. After you shaped eyebrows, tweze those hairs that OBVIOUSLY lie outside of the eyebrow's natural shape. One hair at a time. Last step is to trim them gently with scissors over brow brush that helps you control brow lenght. And that should be enough for the most of men. Only if you have greying eyebrows that you are extremely dissatisfied with or if you have very weak eyebrows, only then you should consider subtly placing a brow powder that matches your brow hair color to add volume and shade for a stronger look.

Eyebrows and eyebrow shaping for men

Most men are not comfortable with too much shaping. They just like their bushy eyebrows to be "cleaned up".

For eyebrows not to look too "manicured", start by trimming back the long hair and cut them in the direction they grow.

If you have a "unibrow" get the middle part waxed to get a clean appearance.

If your brows are really thick you may need a bit of waxing underneath or above your eyebrows to get a cleaned up look.

For waxing: I suggest that you make an appointment with an Esthetician.

Tweezing your eyebrows yourself is an option. Take a cotton pad, moisten it with Hydrogen Peroxide and disinfect the area all around the brows. Take the Tweezer, wipe it with Alcohol to keep it all clean. Start with the stray hairs under your brows. Grab one by one and pull them out in the direction they are growing. Make sure you don't pull out too many. Keep both sides the same. When you're done, wipe the area with a cotton pad using Witch Hazel or Hydrogen Peroxide. Finish off with a soothing ointment.

If you have overplucked the best way to let your eyebrows grow back in is to pluck the stray hairs out, but leave a row or 2 of hairs right under the brows so that they can grow in. That way it wont look so messy.

Maintenance - whether you wax or tweeze, eyebrows should be groomed every 3 weeks. If you have really coarse, thick eyebrows you may want to get them done every 2 weeks.
